Thanksgiving Top Ten

Where to begin? I've vowed to become better at blogging. Honestly most day's I don't have too much to write about and at this point in the semester, there is very little down time. But I've finished all my work for the week, packed my bags and I'm ready to go for tomorrow so I decided now would be a good time to catch you up!

Today is the very last day of November. I've looked for November everywhere, under couches, under blankets but I can't seem to find it! It passed SO quickly! I'm not sure if that's good or bad, but it's the way it is! November was filled with school, job searching, hanging out with family, and starting to play volleyball with some awesome neighbors every Saturday morning (which ends up with me hobbling around for the next few days with dang sore muscles!)

Thanksgiving was a BLAST! I had almost a whole week off for break (I had to go to school Monday but that's it!) It was glorious to have some down time. We took of on Tuesday to Idaho to spend Thanksgiving with my family.

Here's my Thanksgiving Top 10 List (not in any specific order besides #10. It just happened to be my favorite part of Thanksgiving):

  1. Starting and COMPLETING some of my final projects for the semester
  2. Crafting my butt off!
  3. Starting Christmas presents---> Brandon even helped me out! I'm such a lucky wife =]
  4. Spending lots of quality time with my Mom and Dad (whom I miss very much even though I have it lucky and get to see them usually at least once a month)
  5. Spending time with G&G (my grandparents)
  6. Spending the most time in a while with my Sister and her husband
  7. Getting to feel my niece Lyric Lashawn (sp?) Lacey kick when I talked to her!
  8. Deciding that when my niece is little she will say, "my name is Wywic Washawn Wacey! hahaha It will be the cutest little thing EVER
  9. A little Black Friday shopping (not early with the crazy crowds) and getting some great deals!
  10. Spending it with my Husband for the very first time.
I am so thankful for all that I have. I have the worlds BEST family. I would invite anyone to try and say I don't because I will win :) One thing I am especially thankful for is to have Brandon home safe and sound this year. For the past two years Brandon has been away from all of his family. In 2009 he was in Fort Jackson in the middle of his Basic Training for the Army. Last year (2010) Brandon was in Afghanistan, on his first deployment, fighting for our freedom. I am so thankful for him. My heart goes out to all of those soldiers who couldn't be at home this holiday season, and to their families who are missing them dearly. I know what it feels like and I wouldn't ever wish it upon anyone else but I am so proud to know that we are some of the few that stand behind that brave 1% who serve their country so that we can eat and be thankful in peace.
If you remember, set the table for one extra person this Holiday season for a soldier who can't be home with his/her family this year. We remember you and all you do!

Here's some of my latest crafts and a Thanksgiving picture :)

Falling into the Seasons: Halloween recap and a new Wreath!

Halloween has come and gone. (Luckily without the usual snow!) Don't worry though we have made it through fall and it is now the beginning of winter. We had our first big snowfall last night. The temperatures have dramatically shifted and there is NO questions to what's on it's way.

Halloween was a blast. We carved pumpkins the Saturday before with some great friends. We spent the first part of Halloween with our cousins and Shan and Todd. I love being around little ones at Halloween, there is just something so fun about it! We took the kids trick-or-treating. I ended up being a cowgirl but Brandon stole the show with his "Dale" costume. Dale is my dad and Brandon's hero! I wish I had a picture but I don't :( just take my word for it.. it was AWESOME!

Along with my schoolwork (which is piling on as we near the end of the semester!) I have been working on a new wreath for my sister's good friend Danika. She wanted a fall wreath and this is what I came up with:

Tis the season to be thankful. I'm so thankful for all of my family and friends. I never could have made it to where I am without their support. I love each and everyone of you!

bubble, bubble, toil and trouble!

I don't know about you but I LOVE Halloween. I don't know what it is but there is just something so fun and magical about this time of year. Stories of ghosts and goblins, witches riding broomsticks and
jack-o-lantens lighting up the night. I LOVE seeing all of the trick-or-treaters, the little costumes are fabulous.
Another favorite is decorating. I love getting out the decoration boxes and pulling our piece after piece telling stories and reliving memories. Now that we are on our own, as a new family we don't have many decorations but like our marriage, we're starting small and will get grander =].
This year we only have a few pieces, I got the cutest halloween blocks in a giveaway and they are sitting on our tv stand.
I made us a halloween wreath and I love it SO much! it was really easy AND cheap (my two favorite things when it comes to crafts).

Here is mine! It's made of black tulle and the letters are mog pogged and say EEK (if thats a word!) and the button is sewed on!

And this beauty is my sisters. We are both on pintrest and had seen a black tulle wreath on there (thats where my inspiration came from!) and once I did mine and she saw it she had to have one too. Her's is the same as mine but her letters are BOO instead. They both are SO cute! Can't wait to see what she thinks of it.

Well, Hello Stranger =]

Almost 2 months have gone by since my last post, oh dear!! Okay, so then I guess it's time for me to catch up! The summer is now gone and books and school bells are back in session.

We finished up summer with a great trip to California. We spent 8 days (2 of those were traveling days) with Brandon's mom. It was amazing! We had SO much fun and the weather was beautiful. We love getting to see a bunch of friends, especially Amy and her beautiful family! This was the best trip. It was so hard to leave and say goodbye but we know that we will be back (Christmas here we come!!)
We spent our time...
Playing on the freeway =]

It was a LONG car ride!

Playing with Max (and Shadow, Daisy and Shady too!)

Watching my first Major League Baseball game! The Angels won!

Boogie Boarding at the beach.

Practicing a little golf.

Riding bikes on the beach.

More time in the sun at the beach.

Brandon is still working for the National Guard. Lot's of his weekends are taken up with recruiting events. And he always has lots of stories when he gets home from work. He is hoping to get another MOS (A specialty in the military, like his Medic status) sometime this winter and Is already set to go to a 2 week leadership school next March.

I am back up in Logan finishing up my schooling. I have one more semester on USU's campus and then I will be student teaching in the Alpine school district. This semester will be pretty easy, most of my classes are the general classes that I put off until now! I have 3 music classes, so hopefully, maybe I'll come out of this semester a little less tune def!

It's not to fun to be living 2 hours apart but I know that we'll make it and in December when we are living together again, life will be that much sweeter! We are strong and can make it through whatever life throws our way.

What a way to start July!

I sit here, on the couch in a VERY quiet house thinking to myself how lucky I am. I've been replaying the events of the last couple of weeks. Both myself and Brandon have been blessed to be working at great jobs. They might be frustrating at times, we both might think that it's not worth it, but honestly those times are pretty few compared to what our jobs give us. They give us peace of mind and the ability to save for our future. We also are so very fortunate to be surrounded by friends and family. It is so great to be around loved ones and get to share in their triumphs and downs. I've found that family and close friends are what make life so enjoyable! But honestly I'm most lucky to have married my best friend, and to know that I will be with him forever. I love Brandon so much, sometimes I can't believe that I was so blessed to have a soul mate this good. He works so hard for us, to make sure that we don't have to stress about how to pay the bills. He alway can make me laugh, even after coming home from a tough day at work knowing he has to be up at 4am the next morning for another long day. His love for me never falters and I know that we will be together forever. I can't wait to grow our family together!

So, we've been busy... like always! The first part of this month has been a whirlwind of events. We had a great 4th of July weekend. We had BBQ's with the family and lit off fireworks (Brandon's FAVORITE part!).
I made Red White and Blue cupcakes! They were delicious!

We celebrated the 4th with Lindsay and Michael Ryan and of course their brand new bundle of joy Braden. (He's seriously the cutest little boys EVER!)
Our new little nephew Braden Michael Ryan <3
The next weekend we got to celebrate with my sister and my new brother-in-law. They got married on July 9, 2011. Really though, Akilah was already apart of the family. In my mind the only thing that REALLY changed was Holly's last name (its now Lacey). The wedding was beautiful and went so smoothly. Holly is a champ at party planning! We had tons of fun. It stunk that Brandon had to work late friday night and early Saturday morning so he had lots of late night driving and didn't get to hang out with the family much. I was a failure and didn't get good pictures but I can't wait to see the pictures from the photographer!
My bridal shower present to Holly
Brandon and I after the wedding (sorry its a little blurry!)

This last week has been much of a get back into the swing of things week. The reds are as crazy as ever and Brandon's work is full of up and downs too! I keep telling myself I need to update this more often, but life ALWAY has a way of getting in the way =] I'm leaving you with a couple lines from one of my new favorite songs. (I wouldn't mind being this kinda lady)

"He loves his wife and she’s that wife that decorates on the Fourth of July. But says every day's Independence Day. She's golden rule, teaches school, some folks say it isn't cool but she says the Pledge of Allegiance anyway."

sweet summer time

I am completely in LOVE with summer, and it's in full swing here.

My nanny job is a tough one. The "reds" like to push the limits and it has been very interesting trying to set up a discipline system with a 7 and 8 year old! The girls are SO sweet but do not like to hear no! It is going to be an interesting rest of the summer and I'm sure everyday will be a new learning experience!

Brandon just started a job in recruiting with the National Guard on Wednesday. So far he's enjoyed getting back to work. I'm sure that (like with any job) there will be highs and lows but I know that there will be lots of fun times ahead for him.

We got a long weekend last weekend and had the opportunity to spend it with my parents in Lake Powell for a couple of days. We had SO much fun. I loved getting to show Brandon some of my favorite things since this was his first time ever.

Brandon flying the air chair

Trying to jump on the Air Chair

Mom wakeboarding

Boogie Boarding

Brandon skiing for the first time.

Learning how to drop a ski his second time up

Brandon Slaloming  for the first time!

The end of Cathedral Canyon
It was a short trip but we packed a lot of fun into it! We got Brandon up on ski's for his first time. Sometimes it makes me sick how stinkin good he is at EVERYTHING! He got up on his first try and by the second time up, we had him dropping a ski to ride slalom. The next day he tried and got up on one ski. (Something that took me a whole summer to perfect!) I hope that our children get these amazing genes from him one day!! We saw Rainbow Bridge, and explored some really cool canyons. The best one we went through was Cathedral Canyon. The walls got so narrow that the boat barley squeezed through even though the depth was still 70 feet. The red rock in contrast with the warm green/blue water and the bright blue sky never  ceases to amaze me. This is honestly my favorite place on earth.

The rest of the summer has been filled with hanging out with friends and family. It's been a really relaxed summer and that's exactly how i like it!

Update on this crazy thing we like to call life!

Well....It's official. I stink at keeping our blog up-to-date! I was hoping that come summer, our lives would settle down and I'd get more time to do the things I've been wanting to do for a while... like gardening, blogging, getting more crafty, reading more than a book a month, just relaxing! I've kind of done all of those things but as I look back at the last two week I'm blown away at what's been going on!

I finished my finals week with flying colors! I aced my Praxis II test getting a 187/200, scoring above average in all but one section of the test. I aced my math final and my science final and came out with on top of this semester. All in all it was a very successful week! On Thursday after my math final we finished packing and cleaning up the house and moved down to Cedar Hills to live with Brandon's sister Jullienne for the summer. It will be so nice to be around family all summer and I know that there will never be a dull moment in this house!

For Easter, Brandon's mom gave us some tiny little pots for growing dwarf flowers. I was ECSTATIC! They were SO cute and such a good idea since we don't have a spot yet to have a real garden. (Notice how I said yet). As soon as we got moved in Brandon and I got the seeds planted and put out on the balcony. I haven't taken a picture yet but you better bet that as soon as they sprout you'll get to see! The last two days hasn't been good for the flowers, we've been getting freezing rain and I'm  praying they can survive all this moisture and when the sun comes out they will sprout.

This year for Mother's Day we decided to make some wreaths. We (all the kids) gave my mom a wreath with orange, yellow, red, and white flowers that I made out of fabric. Brandon and I gave his mom and mammaw wreaths that were made out of a pair of Brandon's ACU pants that he wore while in Basic Training and AIT (medic training). They all turned out SO cute and I love them. I can't wait to get the go ahead to make a wreath for us (well, and a door to hang it on!). [pictures are on the previous post!]

The past two weeks of being at Jullienne's house have been great! We've gotten to spend TONS of time with family and have gotten to hang out with friends too. It has been SO much fun. I know Brandon enjoy's being close with his siblings and cousins and I love it too! I think I've actually been getting an ab work out from laughing at Brandon and Troy (his brother).

This week I got hired for a nanny position for two little girls. They are DOLLS! They are very close in age and have beautiful red hair. They are honestly the most well behaved little girls I've ever met! When I ask if they will clean up their room they jump on it with out a sigh or grumble at all!

This summer is going to be the best!

Whats new with you?!

It's been a whirlwind this past 5 weeks. I can't believe that Brandon's already been home 5 weeks! It's amazing how quickly we were able to get back into a routine together. So what's been happening?
Nothing and everything! I've been crazy busy with the end of the semester nearing (only finals week is left! YAY!) and we have been trying to plan out our life. Brandon is preparing to go back to school at UVU this summer. We are moving to Cedar Hills for the summer. It will be interesting to see what's in store for our summer and beyond. Nothing is perfectly in place but I'm starting to be okay (well more okay) with that because that is how the Army works!
It's not much, just a little update into our crazy lives!

oh happy happy day

Waking up next to your best friend in the entire world. There is no better feeling, especially after sleeping alone for the last 51/2 months. Yesterday was a roller coaster of emotion. I hate waiting, I'm not a very patient person so waiting all morning was almost so much to handle!

Brandon's mom and I tried to fill it as best we could, stretching out breakfast and walking around the Gateway mall. But there was good news! Brandon called about 12:30ish to let us know he was boarding the plane and would get home about 45 min. earlier than planned. I rushed and called everyone who was coming and let them know to get to our meeting spot asap! We all met up and made the short drive to the hanger where they would be flying into. My butterflies were going nuts! I was so nervous/excited. Finally, after what seemed like HOURS (which in reality was only about 30 min!) the plane landed. They passed, circled around and rolled through the water from the fire trucks to a stop right in front of where we were standing. The door opened and it felt like my stomach was in my throat! Brandon was about the 5th person off the plane. I was shaking I was SO excited! As he shook all of the important peoples hands I fought and squeezed my way to the front of the crowd and ran out to him. Being in his arms again was the most amazing feeling in the world. Words will never be able to explain what I felt. It was like falling in love all over again in those moments. All of that waiting, the tears and the fears all disappeared. Nothing that happened in those 5 long months mattered. All that mattered was that he was home safe and sound and I didn't have to let him go again. I get all teary eyed thinking about it! For most of the night it was almost not real. I keep thinking that I'm going to have to say goodbye again. I don't think it will be totally real until I get to bring him home for good!  All I can say is that it is the BEST feeling I've ever felt. My hero is finally home.

This will be the last post for a while. I just want to enjoy my husband as much as I can!

Thank you for all of your continued support. It means more than you know!

so very excited doesn't even begin to cover it!

I'm surprised that I'm able to sit down and type up a blog post! I have been bouncing around all morning! I can't sit still and my butterflies even have butterflies!

Tomorrow is the day I've been waiting for since October 29, 2010. Tomorrow I will finally have my honey home. It seems so unreal to me. That finally after all this waiting and uncertainty that he will be home and there will be no more skype dates! I'm ecstatic! If only words could explain my feelings right now! I would never ever even get close! There is more to come... after we finally get home and settled down. and of course there will be pictures too =]

no more oceans to separate our love

Yesterday I was traveling home from Spring Break 2011 in San Diego. Spirits were not very high as the sun disappeared behind us and the air started turning colder.... that is until "husband" popped up on my phone.
I haven't seen "husband" on my phone for 5 long months. Nothing could have picked up my mood better. I was so excited to hear that Brandon was in Maine. My husband was FINALLY back in the states.
Brandon boarded another plane to take him across the country, and we (Annaliesa, Brittney and I) continued our journey across 4 states. As we pulled into the frozen tundra also known as Logan, I got another text from Brandon. He made it to Washington safe and sound.

It is so difficult for me to know that he is only like 2 states away from me and I can't board the next flight to go see him. I know that these next couple of days will go by (they will drag but eventually they will pass) and I will finally get to be in his arms. I have the biggest butterflies right now and I know they are only going to get worse and I'm going to love/hate every minute of it! It's settling in, he's safe, and he's coming home to me soon.
March has definitely been the best month.

our lucky month is FINALLY here!

Hallelujah it's FINALLY March!
Honestly this is going to be the most wonderful month!

Brandon is leaving Afghanistan soon. From there he will make his way to Washington state and will be there for about a week and then it will be HOME SWEET HOME! Gosh it is still a couple of weeks away till he gets back to me but I already have the biggest butterflies knowing that it is so close! But I do know I'm not the only one getting so excited!

As for me. Along with my butterflies, I'm a little bit nervous too! Not about having Brandon home, I'm more than ready for that but I am a little nervous about having the house prepared for Brandon's return.  I just wanted everything to be ready and perfect! Luckily I get to get away for a little while before he comes home! I'm going with two of my girlfriends to San Diego, CA for about 10 days! Oh it's going to be amazing!! But I know that I'll miss Brandon the whole time I'm there. It will be an interesting trip!

I'm just so excited for the next couple weeks to be done and over! If anyone wants to know the dates that I have right now, just send me an email and I will let you know! We are so very thankful for all of your continued support over these months.

*ps: just remember any dates right now are still very fluid and can change at any moment!

repetition, welcome to our life =]

I feel as if our lives have been a little mundane lately. [As if having your new husband in a war zone could ever be considered 'mundane'!] I guess a more accurate sentence would be, I feel as if our lives haven't changed since my last post. [better? who knows!]

So on to the everyday happenings:
Brandon and his unit are still in preparations to come home. Brandon doesn't ever say the date that they are leaving Afghanistan, firstly because of safety and secondly apparently there is a curse if you speak the date... [curse meaning you get held there longer!] So as anxious as I am and as much as it's killing me NOT to know when he will finally be stateside, I will hold my feelings inside [for the most part] and not ask for the details. Brandon is still working on a regular basis, I can't wait to see some of his pictures and to meet some of his battle buddies that I hear about.

I am just truckin along with my school work. I only have 3 more weeks sitting in my college lecture/classes and then I will get to spend 6ish weeks at Sunrise Elementary in a 4th grade classroom. I feel like I'm learning so much but I am more than ready to get out there and teach some more. I love going into a classroom on a regular basis and getting to know the students. I feel like that is one of the most important aspects of being a teacher. My Reading In Motion program is going wonderfully, I love my students and my teaching partner and I work together almost seamlessly. The only downfall is that I catch myself singing all the silly little songs at the most random and awkward times! Let me tell you I've gotten some pretty funny looks!

We are under a month now, and I am officially starting to freak out! We did move into our new apartment last weekend. [and by we I mean I moved on Friday and Saturday and my parents came and helped me on Sunday!] The new apartment isn't anything glamorous, it's just a small basement apartment but honestly it will do just fine! That is it will be just find as soon as I finish unpacking and decorating. The days are looking me in the face and i'm getting a little nervous that I'm not going to get everything I want to get done before he comes home! But thats life, you take it one day at a time and hope that in the end things work out.

One of my favorite quotes: In the end, everything will be okay. If it's not okay, then it's not the end.

No More Mail Please

"Will you please tell everyone not to send anymore mail?"
Some people may think that this is something so silly to get butterflies over. But anyone that has ever loved and stayed in contact with someone in the military know how much those words mean. Those words mean our time apart is coming to an end. Granted dates aren't set in stone until they board the plane to come home but no more mail day is just one step closer. They tell us not to send mail after a certain date because if we do it probably wont make it to our soldiers. Needless to say, when I heard those words my stomach filled with butterflies and I got the biggest, goofiest grin on my face. I realize that we've gotten it relatively easy with this deployment, it was a short one and we had amazing communication but a deployment is still a deployment and I don't want to be separated by half the world any longer. I'm so excited to see my soldier, my sunshine, my honey, my husband walk off that plane <3

BEST NEWS EVER!

So up till this point Brandon had the idea that he wasn't going to tell me when he was coming home. He wanted to make it a surprise and had this scheme all planned out. His mom would meet him at the Salt Lake airport and they would rent a car and drive up to Logan. He would have already been in contact with my parents and Annaliesa and they would already have a plan in place as to where Annaliease would make sure I was so Brandon could just show up. His thoughts were the more crowded the better so I could be embarrassed! And it would be all tears smiles laughs and kisses =]

Well, this week we found out that upon getting off the plane in Utah, Brandon would have to Camp Williams for 3 days, having the nights off of course. This kind of threw a wrench in his plan. Neither of us wanted to spend his first three days back in Utah away from each other. AND since we live farther than 50 miles from the camp, they would get us a hotel room. What to do what to do!

Finally, after much badgering from me, Brandon decided to tell me when he is coming home!! WOOT WOOT! and its not even that far away. I am more excited than words can express! I can't post the date or anything on here to keep all of the soldiers safe so if you want to know more just email me. Oh i'm so excited. Best news EVER!

Another Month Gone

I can't believe that another month is almost over!
We have been married for 3 months and 5 days or 3 months and 11 days depending on which wedding date you choose <3
Brandon has been gone for 2 months and 22 days.
It's amazing how when you look back time just flies! I love it! Well, I love it sometimes! Sometimes I hate it, like between our wedding and Brandon leaving. I hate how when you want to slow time down it seems to go even faster!
I have been doing well. The 10th of January was my first day back and today marks the end of my second week of school. It feels like I've been in school for months instead of just 2 weeks. It is super busy and very work intensive. I have 6 classes, 5 of them are once a week but they are 3 hours each. It gets very long and super tiring but in the end I always leave class with a head full of knowledge and a burning to get into the classroom and to start trying out everything we've been learning about. I have also been involved in a scholarship program called Reading in Motion. It is amazing! It's a program for teachers to mix early reading skills with the arts. We go into a 1st grade classroom twice a week for 45 minutes and we sing songs, do little dances, put on plays and so much more. I've only been involved in it for well, 2 weeks so far but I honestly think it should be  brought into every k-3rd grade classroom!

Brandon is doing well. He is working and trying to pass the time! He really loves getting to be a soldier. He might not get to be "in the action" all that much (something that I thank God for EVERY day!) but he still gets to use his training. When he's not working, he likes to watch TV series and movies. He finished the whole House series and has started on The Unit. Of course he sleeps on his time off also.
I am SO thankful for this deployment being only about 5 months. It definitely makes the first deployment easier (not that its easy at all!). But knowing I don't have to be alone for an entire year makes it feel much more manageable! The other thing I'm thankful for (I know I've already said this many times!) is how much we get to communicate. Usually we get to talk over Skype or the phone or just chatting at least every other day. We are so very lucky!!!

As we continue to get more information I will try and keep you updated. As of right now we are planning for Brandon to come home early March!!! So excited! We love you, God bless

Resolutions and Goal for 2011

2011: I am MORE than ready for all you have to offer us. I know this post is a little late, but hey better late than NEVER right?!? Anyways I've been racking my brain for my new years resolutions.. I think I've finally came up with them. Are you ready?

Well, getting back in shape would be lovely. Staying there when I finally get there would be even better! I know when Brandon gets home he'll help me out with this one, and what a better incentive than having him coming home to get me started?!?

I really would love to be a better cook. I'm determined to make more healthy and better meals.

My last resolution is a little bit different. I want to find beauty in every day. I want to see the wonderful things that God has put into my life and to be able to appreciate them to the fullest. There is so much all around us that my eyes tend to passover. I don't like to dwell on the bad things, rather live for the good! So I'm attempting to change my perspective and see all of the glorious things God has put into my life for me to enjoy. Feel free to help me out and when we are together point them out as I try to point them out also.

There are my goal for 2011. They aren't anything huge, things that can be accomplished with small steps every day. But they can all be potentially life changing. (Who knows I might become America's Next Top Chef! haha not likely but it's all in the realm of possibilities!)

Whatever happens this year, I'm determined to look back on December 31, 2011 and say, "With everything that happened. This was a year filled with beauty. What great experiences we had. Memories I don't want to EVER forget!" I just have a feeling this year is our year, the best year yet!

Goodbye 2010

What a year! Honestly, I've got to say this has been the craziest year I've ever lived. There was so many ups and downs.. heres the our year in short:

Our year started our with a goodbye and a count down.
Brandon left after Exodus and went
back to Basic Training.

Then came Basic Training graduation and
another goodbye as he left for
San Antonio for AIT.

Our countdown finally ended and
Brandon came home for a
great summer.

Fall came around and we both started another year at USU.
The wedding plans were also coming along =]

Then we got "the phone call" telling us that Brandon was
going to be deployed to Afghanistan.

Then we got MARRIED!! Twice actually, but both were
the best days of our lives!

And then another goodbye.

The rest of the year has been filled with lots of
Skype dates and emails.

Its been the most up and down year for us. but I wouldn't change any of it for the world!

2010 has treated us well and horrible all at the same time.
Heres to hoping 2011 will be filled with more joys.

Goodbye 2010 we are more than ready for 2011 to be here.
